| Junior and Secondary School Placements: Day and Boarding |
||||||
| In many cases, young people thrive best in a school with small classes, lots of personal attention, clear and consistent structure, and a strong sense of community. These are all available in independent day and boarding schools. Some families decide that the local private and public schools do not have what their child needs in order to reach their potential. Boarding school then becomes the best option. There are many different kinds of boarding schools in the United States. Most are located in the eastern part of the country. Some are highly academic and work only with exceptional and motivated students; others can accommodate average to above average students. A few regular boarding schools specialize in working with students with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), minor language-based learning differences, or with underachievers. There are single-sex schools and coed, big schools and small, those with formal dress codes and others that are more casual. Some are located in or near cities; others have very rural campuses. Some have strong athletic programs; others are more focused on the arts. Needless to say, matching the student to the right school is vitally important and oftentimes a daunting task for parents who are doing the search on their own. Using an educational consultant to steer you in the right direction helps to eliminate some of the uncertainty. |
